A fresh voice in a historic neighborhood

Tucked into the cobblestone heart of Georgetown, Canal House reimagines a former office building and townhomes as a boutique hotel rooted in place, but designed for today. With 106 rooms, a 140-seat restaurant, a rooftop terrace, and intimate public spaces, the project blends timeless materials—brass, stone, wood—with crisp architectural lines and custom furnishings.

Every detail was considered: from the soft light filtering through arched windows in the lounge, to the locally sourced artwork lining guestroom walls. Dash Design led both interior design and branding, crafting an experience that honors the building’s history while setting a new standard for quiet, modern luxury in Washington, DC.

At the heart of Canal House Georgetown, the reception desk sets the tone: warm, layered, and unmistakably local. Framed by custom shelving in deep green lacquer and a curated mix of objects and art, the space balances tactile materials—leather, marble, ribbed wood—with soft light and tonal richness. A sculptural centerpiece anchors the wall, while the mix of mid-century seating and contemporary craftsmanship signals the brand’s blend of heritage and modernity. More than check-in—it’s an introduction to the story.

In the seating alcove, rich jewel tones and curated curiosities offer a sense of intimacy—part private library, part neighborhood salon. Natural light filters through sheer drapery, catching the texture of terrazzo flooring and the ripple of ribbed wood. Each design gesture invites you to pause: to take in the patina, the craft, the quiet luxury.

Nestled between the restored facades, the courtyard unfolds like a hidden garden—equal parts gathering place and quiet retreat. Stone pavers anchor a palette of warm wood and bronze accents, while a circular fire pit radiates a golden glow. Every table is lit by its own petite lamp, casting an intimate halo as dusk settles over Georgetown.
